ADDITIONAL PRODUCT NEWS PRIASAFE™: The Sensor for Simple and Safe Process
A cavity pressure sensor however should be sensitive and robust. The new PRIASAFE™ technology (patent pending) meets both of these requirements. First of all PRIASAFE sensors are mounted into a housing and then calibrated once they are installed. This procedure has a major advantage: the sensitivity does not change after the sensor has been installed into the mold because it is “protected” by the housing. Because the bore tolerances are precisely manufactured by PRIAMUS and also the mounting into the housing is made by the manufacturer a force shunt (contact of the sensor and the bore of the housing) is in this phase not possible. Even if the sensor touches the bore this would be taken into account by the subsequent calibration. In a second step the determined sensitivity will be saved inside the sensor by a hardware code. With the help of this hardware code the sensor sensitivity can then be automatically detected without being influenced by the sensor installation. The sensor is therefore easy to use, safe and most suitable for industrial production.

Friction Control Solutions Announces
Friction Control Solutions announced FriCSo Super-Finishing (FSF), a patent-pending mechanical lapping process that uses a unique FriCSo-developed polymer. The innovative process creates an organic layer that bonds into the metal surface through chemical reaction. The single process significantly improves the surface roughness average (Ra), mean roughness depth (Rz) amplitude and the Bearing Area Curve (BAC), while increasing surface hardness. "FriCSo’s super-finishing solution is not a coating but delivers coating-like performance at a fraction of the time, cost and maintenance required by traditional solutions," said Kostia Mandel, FriCSo Vice President R&D. "It improves cost-effectiveness of existing super-finishing processes, including the reduction of process time and cost of tools." FriCSo-treated metal parts enjoy significant reduction in coefficient of friction (COF), thus enabling improved energy efficiency in engines, have high wear resistance, and demonstrate excellent performance under extreme tribological conditions where boundary and mixed lubrication regimes are encountered. The solution can be easily adapted by the user to existing lapping machines. FriCSo Super-Finishing may be applied on cylindrical parts, on flat surfaces and on a variety of metals. It is commercially viable for mass production or small quantities. FriCSo solutions address the needs of a variety of industries, such as the automotive, heavy-duty, agriculture and hydraulics industries. Environmentally-friendly, the solution does not use hazardous waste materials or produce waste products. No coating is needed.
Polyjet Prototyping Speed Doubles with New Eden350V
From Stratasys
Stratasys recently
introduced the Eden350 and 350V PolyJet prototyping systems. Both
offer increased resolution and the 350V offers a double speed setting.
The
The Eden350V has speed-and-resolution settings that allow users to select between highest model quality and highest build speed. In its high-speed mode, the 350V effectively doubles the build speed of the predecessor 333 system. The speed increase is achieved by changing horizontal resolution to 30-microns (0.0011 in.). In its high-quality mode, a resolution of 16-micron (0.0006 in.) layers enables detail and surface finish smoothness that rivals any competitive process. Both settings offer excellent quality, with an X, Y and Z resolution of 600 x 600 x 1,600 dpi respectively, constituting a 100 percent increase in Y resolution over the Eden333. The 350 and 350V are built on a new high-performance platform, which was introduced last November. The systems have a larger build envelope than the 333, measuring 13.8 x 13.8 x 7.9 in. They also accept Jumbo-size 3.6 kg material cartridges, allowing larger build volumes and longer unattended build jobs. The Eden350V has two modeling-material and two support-material cartridges, which increase the unattended build time by 360 percent. Both 350 systems model with all available PolyJet material families, including the Tango, Vero, and translucent FullCure lines.
Ascon Corporation GammaDue Series
The GammaDue series is available in a complete range of sizes, from 1/32 DIN to 1/4 DIN. These PC configurable instruments are available with a variety of additional features including analog or digital inputs and all types of output; relay, SSR, SSr drive, mA and Volt. Interfacing is available through three types of serial communications with either of the two most established standard protocols – Modbus and PROFIBUS DP. The integration of Modbus Master with the mathematical package allows the top range instrument to receive, process and send data to other GammaDue controllers or controllers equipped with Modbus Slave serial communications. An optional memory chip is available for data copying or archiving, and the password protected fast view viewing procedure allows the operator rapid access to important functions and information, while protecting other parameters. More complete than a simple controller, the GammaDue instruments integrate special Start-up and Timer Setpoint manipulation functions in addition to the programmed Setpoint. These features can significantly reduce costs because additional equipment and wiring to perform these timing functions are unnecessary.
Kistler's new 2-component Fz, Mz Type 9345A sensor is extremely compact and combines the measurement of a tensile/compressive force of –10 ... 10 kN and a torque of –25 ... 25 N•m. It is mechanically compatible with the established Type 9349A reaction torque sensor and also comes with threaded mounting flanges at either end and a centering seat. This makes the sensor simple to install and easy to adapt to a whole range of measurement tasks. A center hole permits the passage of shafts. Thanks to their high sensitivity, extreme rigidity and high natural frequency, piezoelectric sensors are ideally suited for research and development work (e.g. measuring feed force and torque in drilling printed circuit boards, in thread cutting or in designing compression, tension and torsion springs). A further advantage of piezoelectric sensors by comparison with other types of measuring principles is that they offer an extremely wide measuring range covering several decades. Moreover, if properly handled, they have a virtually unlimited service life, being immune to wear or fatigue.
Mastercam’s New High Speed Toolpaths
Core Roughing – A new strategy for Mastercam that is designed for core machining. The toolpath intelligently cuts the part from the outside in, and always climb cuts, reducing the risk of damaging specialty insert cutters. The toolpath changes its cutting method to inside out when internal pockets are encountered. This minimizes the need for helical ramping or full-width cutting. Area Clearance – A new strategy for Mastercam designed for cavity machining. Similar to Core Roughing, it uses Z slices through the model at different depths. Area Clearance is designed for clearing large amounts of material starting from the center of the part and working outwards. Waterline – Also generated from a set of constant Z slices, this toolpath is best suited for semi-finishing and finishing. Waterline has an automatic smooth entry/exit calculation and provides smooth transitions from one Z level to the next. Scallop – Generates 3D passes at a constant distance from each other along the surface of the part, starting from the outside and working in. This toolpath lets the user control the scallop height, allowing for very smooth finishes. Horizontal Area – Automatically recognizes and machines flat areas. This toolpath shows off the “minimum distance” retract motion (which is also available in all other high speed toolpaths) to avoid the part while moving from region to region. Raster – Similar to parallel machining with the added benefit of smoothing sharp corners in the toolpath motion. Features like toolpath filleting optimize the toolpath for smooth motion, which is available in Raster and other high speed toolpaths. Pencil – Newly enhanced, Pencil identifies all the “seams” of a part and develops a toolpath along those seams. Additional cuts can be added that are offset from the initial pass. The Pencil toolpath conforms to the shape of the part, creating a superior surface finish. These toolpaths are tailored to high speed machining and hardmilling by offering smooth cutting motions and smooth entry/exits. They are also useful for many applications by offering several cutting styles, the ability to change the cutting style, and having controls like steep/shallow angle limits, rest passes, and holder gouge checking.
