RJG’s eDART™ 8.0 Software Offers Enhanced Features

The latest eDART software from RJG, Inc. includes many enhancements including a new Views Tool bar.  This tool bar allows instant access to different views tailored for the many functions of the RJG eDART System.  RJG announced the new features of the product during NPE 2006 in Chicago.

eDART software is also now available for purchase in five languages; German, Spanish, Chinese, French and Japanese. A single system can have multiple languages installed and the default start-up languages can be set locally for each eDART. This makes it possible for several networked eDARTs to each have a different language operating simultaneously. The user can switch between any of the installed languages on the fly. If the eDART start-up language is changed the System Menu will also change to the new language.

In addition, the eDART System REDI Kit allows injection molding machine manufacturers to equip their machines with pre-installed components that provide an easy interface with RJG's eDART System. The eDART System REDI Kit can be provided to the customer as a machine option that is requested at the time of purchase. Once the eDART System REDI Kit has been installed, the molder can get the RJG eDART System up and running faster and more efficiently. Two versions are available for both electric and hydraulic machines.

Alcoa Introduces QC-10™, Next Generation of Mold Material

Alcoa has introduced QC-10™, the next generation of aluminum mold material. QC-10 was developed in response to market need for an aluminum mold material with superior thick section properties.

This new proprietary alloy features high purity composition and quench insensitive microstructure, providing minimal reductions in strength across section thicknesses. QC-10’s strength characteristics remain very consistent from 8 through 24 inches, improving machining performance as it retains high strength through the plate thickness.

In addition to its increased strength, QC-10 offers performance improvement characteristics that make it an ideal mold material. With better corrosion resistance than traditionally used aluminum mold alloys, QC-10 reduces maintenance time and is compatible with more than 75 percent of resins used in the marketplace.

Benefits mold makers and molders will receive using Alcoa’s QC-10 alloy include:

  • Reduce cycle time by 25-30 percent in comparison to P20 steel. With five times the thermal conductivity of steel, aluminum reduces required cooling times and improves dimensional control of the molded part.

  • Reduced mold production time. As a mold material, QC-10 can be machined and polished more rapidly than P20 steel and beryllium copper alloys.

  • Maximized machining performance. QC-10 is supplied tempered to full hardness without the need for additional heat treatment after machining. QC-10 is stress relieved to remove a majority of the residual stresses.

Gammaflux Introduces Mold ID Capabilities to TTC Hot Runner Temp Controllers

Gammaflux L.P. has introduced mold identification capabilities to its high-end line of TTC hot runner temperature control systems. This new product feature was displayed for the first time at NPE in Chicago, June 19-23, 2006.

With this new feature, up to 63 different injection
molds can be connected to a single TTC hot runner controller, and the controller can automatically identify the operating parameters for each individual mold. All operating data for each mold is stored in the controller, and a menu shows operators exactly how each tool needs to be controlled.

This new feature is available on Gammaflux TTC controllers with a PC-based operator panel (touchscreen interface). Using an Ethernet connection, the TTC connects with a digital input mold reading module. The recipe can be identified with either a mold key or a cable that attaches to the mold. Mold ID software is loaded into the TTC to operate this new function. Existing TTC controllers in the field can be easily retrofitted to accept Mold ID.

The Gammaflux TTC family of hot runner temperature control systems provides state-of-the-art performance for molding applications up to 640 zones. Designed for worldwide operation, the TTC family features true global input power flexibility.

Mastercam X is Certified for Autodesk Inventor 11

CNC Software, developer of Mastercam CAD/CAM software, announced that its Mastercam X CAD/CAM Software has been certified for Autodesk Inventor® 11 by the Autodesk Inventor Certified Applications Program. Products undergo testing by Autodesk staff. To be certified, the product must meet certain guidelines and demonstrate a high level of quality as well as compatibility with Autodesk Inventor. Certification is given only after the product has been tested and approved.

Gary Hargreaves, Director of Business Development for CNC Software, said, “The flow from design to manufacture becomes easier for both Inventor and Mastercam customers, where the designer can be assured that the part designed in Inventor is precisely the part that is machined with Mastercam. Both companies are working together to provide customers with the best in CAD and CAM software. The Mastercam and Autodesk Inventor integration offers users a way to easily work between the two products and stay ahead of their competition.”

Mastercam X has a direct add-in for Autodesk Inventor, a new way to boost productivity. Free to the Mastercam and Autodesk communities, Mastercam Direct enables users to open a model in Mastercam while in an Autodesk session, and then update toolpaths to reflect changes to the model. Mastercam X is able to read in native Inventor files for design purposes and toolpath generation.

UGS and Siemens Team Up to Deliver New Software Technology

UGS Corp. and Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) Group have announced plans to deliver a software solution that will enable companies to design and program production environments for products that are still in development.

The software framework will make it possible for companies to simultaneously develop a new product, define its digital manufacturing environment and design the logic of the shop floor automation equipment. As a result, companies will be able to perform higher quality production line ramp-ups and accelerate the introduction of new products.

The new solution will consist of software that integrates UGS’ Teamcenter™ software, the world’s most widely used PLM portfolio, with Siemens Simatic software, the standard automation system for controlling the industry’s widest variety of machines and plants. Through this joint effort, the two companies are significantly expanding a relationship that began in 1999 between Siemens and Tecnomatix (UGS acquired Tecnomatix in April 2005).

The integration of Teamcenter and the new Simatic Automation Designer facilitates product lifecycle collaboration and knowledge sharing, which will make it easier for product design engineers and manufacturing engineers to share information while working concurrently on development and production. Logic design for automating plant equipment, for example, can take place at the same time as product and process design, resulting in faster time to market for new products.
