Progressive Offers Threaded C-Cores

Progressive Components offers one-stop convenience by supplying threaded Collapsible Cores, or C-Cores, direct to customers.

The benefits of Collapsible Cores have been realized for years: Cycle time is reduced as much as 1/3 due to elimination of gear/rack activation, while cavity spacing can be tighter, resulting in a smaller mold and press.

Today there is a growing trend by moldmakers to now go one step further and not only order pre-engineered C-Cores, but also to have the item arrive in their shop with the thread detail provided finish machined.

Before ordering a standard, blank Collapsible Core, consider forwarding a part drawing or CAD geometry to tech@procomps.com, and let Progressive evaluate the costs and advantages of this specialized capability.

New Side-Gating Tunnel Gate Inserts

The German firm of i-mold GmbH & Co.KG recently introduced its new SGC series of contourable tunnel gate inserts for a considerably extended range of applications.  These new tunnel gate inserts differ from the previous design of inserts in that the runner opens from the front side but the actual gating surface can be located exactly where desired, depending on the design and function of the molded part.  These inserts are ideal for applications where, for example, the injection point has to be positioned deep inside the molded part. A typical example is the side-gating of a rib below the outer edge of the molded part. The result is a molded part without any visible gate marks on the side exposed to view.

The SGC tunnel gate inserts are available in three sizes for maximum shot weights of 40, 140 and 1100 g respectively.  They are suitable for all standard and engineering plastics, and also for filled or reinforced materials.  An integrated dead-end recess reduces pressure loss and shear stress. The sprue in the runner can be easily removed, provided that a certain distance is maintained between the gate and the ejector.  3D or 2D-CAD data are available for all gate inserts, permitting easy integration into the mold designing process. Like all tunnel gate inserts from i-mold, these are machined from highly wear resistant steel and have a hardness of 54 HRC.
