Mastercam to Showcase Feature Based Machining at Westec 2008

Westec 2008 attendees will get the first look at Mastercam’s new Feature Based Machining (FBM) when the show kicks off on March 31st at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, CA.

Mastercam’s new Feature-Based Machining automates the machining process. This offers shops dramatic speed improvements and allows for great reductions in programming time.

Mastercam’s FBM will automatically evaluate the part and program pockets, contours, bosses, and drilling routines with minimal user input. New users to Mastercam will be machining 2D solid parts sooner thanks to FBM's ease of use and short learning curve.

TolTec® Microimage Measurer

The TolTec® Microimage Measurer from Gesswein Co, Inc. verifies the accuracy of mold measurements during the mold making process while the mold is still in place on the EDM or milling machine, helping boost your productivity. It eliminates the time-consuming, error-prone routine of having to remove, measure and relocate the mold, allowing users to check tolerances on the fly with ease. It minimizes costly mistakes often caused by inexact mold repositioning. Accurate measurements are taken and recorded from the machine’s CNC controller.

Features:

  • Precise, in-process measurement verification of mold without removal from host machine for reduced downtime and increased productivity

  • Quick, hassle-free changeover from tooling head to imaging head

  • In-process X-Y tolerance verification

  • High-resolution video inspection with 15" LCD monitor and integral lens laser point finder

  • Working tolerances equal to those of host machines

  • Compatibility with a variety of different machines

  • Choice of 30X, 55X and 250X lenses and 3R, EROWA and NB fixtures

Bales’ X-Ray Technology Improves Mold Surface Treatment

Bales Mold Service, a supplier of engineered mold coatings and finishes, is stepping up its service to customers to ensure superior mold performance.

Today there are many “mystery metals” imported from China and other parts of the world.  With its new Fischer Scope X-Ray Spectrometry XDL, Bales can determine the exact composition of the metal.  The thickness of any coating on any substrait can also be determined within millionths, certified to NIST standards.  This ensures not only quality plating and polishing, but manufacturing excellence without the guesswork.
