HEADLINE PRODUCTS D-M-E Brings Back Popular UniLifter® for Reliable Undercut Release
The UniLifter is a component for molding and releasing undercuts in a plastics injection mold. The core blade forms the undercut feature while the mold is closed and plastic is injected. As the part is ejected, the core blade travels at an angle, moving up with the part as it also angles away from the molded undercut, thus freeing the snap or hook feature. The alternative for many moldmakers is machining a custom lifter themselves. D-M-E’s UniLifter saves time and allows them to focus on what they do best: high-value machining of core and cavity plates. UniLifters are most often used in molding situations where a part’s undercut angle is between 5° to 10°. Applications with greater angles may be equally successful when pairing the UniLifter with a guide. The UniLifter undercut release system is comprised of three pieces: a core blade made of H-13 steel, U-coupling and T-gib. Standard sizes are available for both metric and inch and offer a flat or rounded core blade to meet a wide range of applications.
Mastercam Showcasing Major Developments at Eastec 2008
Mastercam’s new Feature Based Machining automates the machining process. This offers shops dramatic speed improvements and allows for great reductions in programming time. Mastercam’s FBM automatically evaluates a part and programs pockets, contours, bosses, and drilling routines with minimal user input. Mastercam’s FBM will be part of the Mastercam X3 release, later this year. Mastercam in SolidWorks is fully integrated CAM that runs seamlessly in SolidWorks. SolidWorks users can now program their parts for machining directly within SolidWorks using Mastercam’s industry-leading toolpaths and machining strategies. Mastercam in SolidWorks will be available after the release of Mastercam X3.
