Conventional rust preventives may leach out of mold crevices and mark parts, resulting in lost production time and rejected parts. Mold Shield rust preventive from Slide Products, now with a unique, extra-dry spray formula and red indicator dye, delivers a dry mist spray, which will not penetrate into moving mold parts, including ejector pin holes, slides, cams, etc.  

As a result, Mold Shield will not bleed out and mark parts when molds are put back in service. Red indicator dye makes it easy to determine if the complete mold is protected or if application is incomplete. 

Self-cleaning at start-up, Mold Shield is perfect for sealing out moisture and protecting tooled steel overnight, as well as providing up to two years protection under normal in-door storage conditions. It has no ozone depleting chemicals and has a non-silicone, non-wax formulation. Mold Shield also neutralizes fingerprint acids while it seals out condensation.

NVision and FixLogix Partner to Provide Unique Part Holding for Non-Contact Scanning 

NVision Inc. and FixLogix LLC have partnered to provide a new, easy-to-use and economical modular part-holding system designed especially for non-contact scanning. The FixLogix part-holding system uses a t-slot fixture plate with integrated components to stage the part on the machine. The system offers tremendous savings compared to conventional fixtures, and offers a superior solution to laser scanning applications due to the infinite adjustability of the t-slot system. 

The t-slot plate has a clamp ledge around the perimeter, allowing easy lock-down with toe-clamps. New “near zero” force clamps feature an innovative self-wedging design ideal for trapping soft or fragile parts without distortion. The FixLogix modular part-holding system provides multi-axis infinite positioning of locating components, which simplifies fixture construction. The frame is laser engraved with reference scales along the T-slots, providing clear documentation of the fixture setup for easy repeatability. The modular part-holding system works equally well with optical scanning systems mounted on gantries and portable coordinate measuring machines (CMM).

ABBA Systems and Mold-Masters announced at Drinktec 2009 that they are combining forces to sell complete PET preform mold solutions under the brand name of iPET Systems.

Using the resources, knowledge and manufacturing capacity of Mold-Masters and ABBA, iPET Systems offers new molds, conversions, retrofits, refurbishments, spare parts and service from 5 manufacturing locations and 40 sales and service offices globally.

iPET Molds and hot runners are directly interchangeable with existing PET mold platforms and fit in all makes of injection molding machines. Available from 2 to 192 cavities, iPET Molds come with up to 4 positions of post mold cooling technology and offer significant new features and advantages to preform molders. The proprietary design of the iFlow hot runner manifold has less pressure drop, fills more uniformly and generates less preferential shear stress than conventional gun drilled manifolds. The valve gate has been purpose engineered for molding PET so it generates less PET dust, reduces crystallinity in the gate and makes in-press service easy. Patented technology called iCool, allows iPET molds cool more evenly and more efficiently. Inspection Systems

Gesswein now offers new styles of Mantis Optical Inspection Systems.  Choose from two distinct versions: the affordable Compact and the high-performance Elite. 

Each one combines the viewing ease of a bench magnifier with the high resolution of a microscope and provides a large viewing area that promotes maximum user comfort while producing razor-sharp 3-D stereo images. Each also eliminates the muscle fatigue and eyestrain commonly associated with traditional eyepiece technologies, and they easily accommodate users who wear safety or prescription glasses.

Mantis Compact is smaller, with lower magnification (4X and 6X) and a considerably lower price. Mantis Elite offers high-performance enhancements, including powerful magnification (up to 20X) and an extra-large field of view. The Elite head can be tilted from +5° to -20° for added viewing adjustment and compensation for taller subjects. It includes a twin turret that holds two lenses simultaneously, allowing the user to rotate either lens into place as needed, as well as an ambient glare shield.
Both Compact and Elite can be mounted on a counterbalanced universal stand that features smooth, fluid movement and stop-on-a-dime positioning or on a stable bench stand that offers integrated focus and dimmable sub-stage illumination.
