Schott Systeme Announces Updated CAD/CAM, Price Freeze

Helping mold tool companies to remain competitive, German software developer Schott Systeme have frozen their pricing for the 12th year running, while at the same time launching a raft of new design and machining functions within their latest Pictures by PC 3.4 CAD/CAM software.

Schott Systeme has streamlined mold tool design and machining processes. Schott Systeme has enhanced its data import facilities to include the very latest versions of STEP and 3D IGES Solid formats. However for customers having to deal with poor quality data, considerable thought has been put into actual model repair, with an entirely new range of advanced surfacing functionality and a more advanced ‘Healing’ suite. Their existing ‘Tribrid’ mixed modeling techniques have also been improved to help customers working with STL mesh models, enabling them to construct core and cavity molds from mixed mesh, solid and surface models. This also includes a new suite of mesh analysis, repair and handling tools.

Pictures by PC 3.4 also includes a number of enhancements to speed up the machining of mold tools. The company will exhibit at this years Euromold exhibition. Visitors are welcome in Hall 11 on Stand C63.

VISI Voted ‘Best Engineering Product’

Vero Software, a provider of CAD/CAM/CAE solutions for the tooling industry, announced that its flagship product VISI, has been voted the winner of the 'Best Product' in the Engineering Software category at the DPA Innovation Awards.

The VISI product suite is innovative in combining the best in solids and surface modeling, with complex model analysis and plastic flow simulation tailored towards 3D tool design and manufacture. Keeping the model within the same product environment throughout the entire design cycle, from design to manufacture, guarantees data consistency and greatly smoothes the design process.

Basing a tool design on a preventive flow analysis can detect potential manufacturing issues – such as welding lines, air traps, best gate location, etc providing the maximum possible time frame for a corrective solution.  This is only made possible through an integrated CAD/CAM/CAE analysis. An uninterrupted data exchange between the design and the analysis environment provides the ability to identify possible critical situations, set the most effective molding parameters, optimize the runners and cooling layout and predict problems concerning any part of the plastic component creation process.

Exact Launches New Software Rental Program

Exact Software has introduced a new rental program that provides manufac-turers with full JobBOSS shop manage-ment and control functionality in exchange for a low monthly fee.

Developed as an option for companies that have not yet justified the cost of purchasing a full-featured job shop software system outright, Exact JobBOSS offers these benefits:

  • With the rental model, costs shift from a capital expenditure to operational budget, thereby reducing the investment risk.

  • The cost of owning the system is spread out over the contract period, reducing start up costs.

  • The low, up-front investment allows for nearly immediate ROI.

  • Exact JobBOSS is market-leading job shop software for automating several aspects of managing a job shop, including job costing work cell scheduling, job estimating, and shop floor control.

Exact's monthly rental fee includes software, training, technical support, and all software upgrades. Exact offers contract terms ranging from 2-5 years with the option to renew upon expiration.

New Star-Line Crown Series Nozzles

Heitec Hot Runner Systems, Germany, available in North America through Technoject Machinery Corp., has further developed the Star-Line nozzle into a 2-piece design with a body and crown. This innovation offers unique advantages allowing the edge gate technology to be used with numerous materials, including difficult engineering resins. Maintenance performed on molds is done in minutes without disassembling the tips or crown.

With the Star-Line Crown the expansion length is no longer a limiting factor and mold construction heights can be from 60 mm to 500 mm. The nozzle crown is fixed inside the cavity mold base plate, therefore the tips remain at the predetermined injection point and gate diameters of 0.4 mm are now achievable.

The Star-Line Linear nozzle is particularly suitable for molding long, thin-walled parts, such as pipettes or syringe barrels. With parallel alignment of the nozzles, parts can be direct gated from two sides which helps prevent the deflection of thin cores from the injection pressure. The pitch dimension can vary with a distance of between 10 mm to 26 mm between parts.
